Budget Airline – Allegiant – Celebrates Honolulu Inaugural Flights

February 9, 2013 – (Louisville, KY): Welcome to Honolulu International Airport (HNL), The Gateway to The Aloha State.

Budget carrier, Allegiant (G4), is launching inaugural flights between Phoenix-Mesa Airport (IWA), Boise (BOI), and Spokane (GEG) to Honolulu International Airport (HNL) this weekend. The flights are operated by Boeing 757-200 aircraft seating 223 passengers.

Flights between Phoenix-Mesa (IWA) and Honolulu (HNL) will operate twice weekly. Flights from both Boise (BOI) and Spokane (GEG) to to Honolulu (HNL) will only operate once per week.

Lawrence J. Krauter, CEO, Spokane International Airport, commented about the new service, “We are pleased that Allegiant Air is responding to the market demand in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene region for nonstop service to the Hawaiian Islands.” Krauter added, “The value of nonstop service is significant as it saves time and avoids the hassle and uncertainty of connecting flights. This is especially important when people are using up precious vacation time. Flying on Allegiant will allow our customers to board the aircraft in the morning and make it to the beach by lunchtime!”

Boise Airport Director, Rebecca Hupp said, “We are delighted that Allegiant has selected Boise as one of their new markets for nonstop service to Hawaii.” At the same time, Mesa Mayor and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Authority Chair Scott Smith said, “It’s exciting that passengers can now fly directly to Honolulu from right here in Mesa.”

It’s big news anytime a smaller airport is connected with a new non-stop route to a destination such as Honolulu. Allegiant Airlines (G4) is also largely responsible for the build-up of low cost carriers, including Spirit Airlines, at Mesa’s Gateway Airport likewise.

Budget Airline Tradeoff

Budget carriers such as Allegiant can offer great deals, in fact the niche carrier has a great track record at connecting underserved markets with popular vacation destinations. Not only does Allegiant have a great track record with these markets, but their parent, Allegiant Travel Company, is well known for providing full travel packages – Flights, Lodging, and Ground Transportation – to consumers.

Flying a budget carrier such as Allegiant does have some tradeoffs. For starters, their once or twice a week schedule doesn’t always fit well with travelers plans. Secondly, Allegiant still charges fees items like checked luggage. Most importantly, budget carriers like Allegiant don’t have interline agreements with the major carriers; If there’s a mechanical problem, they can’t just transfer your ticket to a competitor like Alaska, Delta, or Hawaiian can.

At the end of the day, the base airfare may be lower but when you add all of the costs up, prices are competitive with legacy carriers.

Hawaiian Airlines non-stop Phoenix to Hawaii Travel Deals!

Alaska Airlines, a large west coast carrier, along with Delta Air Lines, are both competitors from the Pacific Northwest to Hawaii, but consumers will have to connect via Portland, Seattle, or Salt Lake City. When it comes to the Phoenix to Honolulu route,Hawaiian Airlinesis a strong competitor with regular widebody non-stop service and complimentary meals.
