New Boeing 777-300ER equipped with Satellite WiFi
American Airlines took delivery of their first Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) aircraft today. The delivery was an important step to transform American’s aging fleeting into the industry’s most modern fleet. American is the first US carrier to order and take delivery of the 777-300ER.
Virasb Vahidi, American’s Chief Commercial Officer, said, “This is an important step in demonstrating how American is focused on putting our customers at the center of everything we do.” Vahidi continues, “This aircraft will deliver a new level of comfort, connectivity, and convenience for our customers. We are especially pleased to be among the first in the industry to offer a combination of fully lie-flat seats with all-aisle access, international Wi-Fi, and state-of-the-art in-seat entertainment.”
John Wojick, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Global Sales for Commercial Airplanes, said, “This delivery demonstrates American’s commitment to transforming its fleet into one of the youngest and most fuel efficient in the industry.” Wojick adds, “The 777-300ER is an ideal airplane for American’s fleet renewal effort providing unparalleled operating economics, long-range capability, reliability and passenger comfort.”
New Livery – New Look coming to American Airlines
The 777-300ER aircraft delivered today, without the traditional American livery, marks the beginning of the airline’s brand new fleet type and points toward the airline’s future. Prior to being put into service, the new aircraft will sport a freshly painted livery on the outside.
In the past, American polished the aluminum exterior and its been long rumored American might be seeing a livery change.
First Route for the Boeing 777-300ER
Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to Sao Paulo (GRU) will be the first route for this new aircraft, starting January 31, 2013.
As more aircraft are delivered, the Boeing 777-300ER is scheduled to operate from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to both Dallas Fort/Worth Intl (DFW) and New York (JFK).
As American Airlines passengers board the new aircraft, they will pass through a dramatic archway and ceiling treatment with mood lighting. This will provide a modern experience and provide the look and feeling of spaciousness.
A walk-up bar in the premium cabin stocked with snacks and refreshments will be a first for any U.S. airline and adds another distinctive luxury feature to the 777-300ER.
Entertainment options include up to 120 movies, more than 150 TV programs and more than 350 audio selections that will be offered throughout the aircraft. Also, every seat will feature individual 110-volt AC power outlets and USB jacks for charging personal electronic devices. Wireless LAN or WiFi broadband Internet service will be provided through-out the aircraft.
