Southwest Starts New Flights November 4th

Southwest successfully started several new routes including their inaugural service in the Louisville (SDF) to Denver International (DEN) market yesterday.

However, if you’re bound for the sunshine state as cooler weather moves into the northern United States, Southwest has officially landed at Key West International Airport (EYW) – the southernmost point of the Continental United States with sun, fun, and beautiful turquoise waters.

Key West is now the eighth city Southwest Airlines operates to in the State of Florida and the 78th city added to the airline’s growing route network. The airline’s entrance to the market began with its wholly-owned subsidiary AirTran Airways. As Southwest merges the route networks, they will take over AirTran’s two daily nonstop flights from Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Tampa Bay International Airport (TPA).

In addition to the two daily nonstops, Southwest will also begin daily nonstop flights between New Orleans Louis Armstrong Airport (MSY) and Key West (EWY) starting March 9, 2013, just in time for Spring Break.

The new nonstop flights will provide connecting service to Key West from more than 75 destinations.

Kevin Krone, Southwest Airlines Vice President Marketing, Sales, and Distribution, said, “Our arrival in Key West represents one of the true benefits of our integration with AirTran Airways, allowing us to continue to bring low fares and legendary Customer Service to the Florida Keys.” Krone continued, “Key West is a destination our Customers have been eagerly awaiting.”
