Dulles Day Plane Pull – September 22, 2012

Special Olympics Virginia and Dulles International Airport will hold their 20th anniversary of The Dulles Day Plane Pull during the airport’s celebration for it’s 50th anniversary, celebrating two milestones within one day!

This Saturday it’ll be the Man vs. Machine event of the year as nearly 70 teams will tackle an 82-ton FedEx Airbus A300-600F air cargo plane. Teams of 25 people will compete in pulling the widebody jet 12 feet in the shortest amount of time with the Chesapeake County Virginia Sheriff’s Office defending five years in first place.

The Plane Pull is a special fundraiser for the Special Olympics.

Chris Pascal, Captain of Chesapeake County, Va., Sheriff’s Office Plane Pull team, said, “This very worthwhile cause gives Special Olympics athletes an opportunity to compete in events that they usually wouldn’t be able to participate in.” Pascal added, “Their participation in competitive sport builds confidence and empowers them to reach their goals.”

The unique fundraising event, which began at Dulles in 1993, has spurred other plane pulls across the nation. Today, the annual airfield event has raised more than $1.5 billion to benefit Special Olympics Virginia.

Dulles Family Day – September 22, 2012
