AAdvantage Members Can Now Redeem Qantas at AA.com

Book your next Australian Trip with American Miles at AA.com

If you’re a Frequent Flyer with American Airlines, you can now use those hard earned AAdvantage Miles to book award travel on AA.com with QANTAS Airways.

QANTAS Airways is a oneworld airline and joint partner with American, but the ability to redeem online flights online didn’t exist. This is a common problem when it comes to redeeming miles on alliance or partner carriers, often resulting in numerous phone calls to locate flights.

As a result of QANTAS’ recent expansion to daily DFW service from Sydney, American is now providing consumers the ability to book award travel to Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific (or beyond) via AA.com

Suzanne Rubin, President – AAdvantage Loyalty Program, said, “We received very positive feedback when we launched online booking for Alaska Airlines, British Airways and Hawaiian Airlines – and the demand for Qantas has been high.” Rubin continued, “Our AAdvantage members have been quite enthusiastic about the ability to book award travel on AA.com for AAdvantage participating airlines – and expanding to other carriers continues to be one of our main priorities.”

Despite this new functionality at AA.com, it likely won’t make it any easier to find seats, especially premium awards in Business or First Class, which are typically the best value redemptions.

Since the Australian markets are in high demand, American and Qantas are working together to offer customers more flights from more cities across the U.S. and Australia than any other airline partnership. The two carriers are optimizing schedules to improve connection times for customers when traveling between the two countries.

As the DFW flight can sometimes demand a premium, it’s always a good idea to look at flights and prices from Los Angeles (LAX) where Sydney is flown 2x daily, including one A380 flight, an A380 nonstop is offered to Melbourne, as well as a non-stop to Brisbane.

Other carriers with nonstop flights from Los Angeles (LAX) include Delta Air Lines, Virgin Australia, and United Airlines. Air New Zealand offers one stop service via Auckland (AKL) where you can connection directly to other Australian cities such as Perth.
