First Thai A380 adorns distinctive livery

Thai Airways International (THAI) will soon be receiving their first mammoth A380 aircraft, planned for use on premium routes between its hub at Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport (BKK | VTBS) and European Destinations.

The aircraft is nearing handover, as the A380 is rolled out of the paint shop in Hamburg, Germany. Once the the vibrantly colored airliner is handed over to THAI, the airline will officially become the ninth operator of the A380.

Aside from the new exterior look, cabin installation work is finished on this aircraft. The colossal jet, powered by four wing mounted engines, is now set to begin final testing phases prior to leaving Hamburg.

During this next phase, all cabin systems will be thoroughly tested — this includes air flow and air conditioning, lighting, galleys, in-flight entertainment, and yes, even the lavatories and the seats. In parallel, Airbus will also be conducting advanced performance tests to ensure readiness for delivery. No stone is left unturned during these two testing phases which Airbus carries out concurrently.

Once the final testing phases are completed, the new Airbus A380 will be will be flown to Toulouse. Upon arrival in Toulouse, the new Airbus A380 – like others prior – will receive final preparation for deliver. The official handover and delivery to THAI is scheduled to take place the third quarter of this year.

THAI has firm orders for six A380 aircraft.
