Allegiant Nonstop Jet Flights

This Thursday,  June 21, 2012, Allegiant Airlines will make its innagural flight from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) to Orlando via Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB).   Allegiant is starting this new, non-stop flight using a full-size jet at an airport where passengers commonly must use regional jets or crop dusters to reach an airlines hub to make a connecting flight.

This isn’t just any flight, but it’ll be the first flown by Allegaint from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to Orlando and it’ll be a day of celebration with a water cannon salute as the flight departs for the sunshine state at 3:40pm.

If you live anywhere near Wilkes-Barre/Scranton you better get your luggage packed.   Magic 93 FM, along with Allegiant and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) have sponsored a “Pack Your Bags” promotion on Thursday, June 21st.  One lucky family will take-off to Orlando nonstop with four tickets to LEGOLAND® Florida in hand, plus three nights at the Orlando World Center Marriott.

Who is Allegiant?

Allegiant Airlines is a Las Vegas based airline that provides real jet service to niche markets, often connecting smaller cities with hot leisure destinations.   The airline operates a fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-82, MD-83, and Boeing 757-200 aircraft.

In addition to airfare, they do offer package deals.

Like the major airlines, with perhaps the exception of Southwest, Allegiant does charge for checked luggage — however, Allegiant also charges up to $25 for carry-on luggage stowed in the overhead bin.  Personal items may be brought on-board for free, but they must fit under the seat in front of you.

Competition = Lower Airfares

When low cost carriers start creating competition, prices start to lower on the other airlines to become more competitive.   Since Allegiant operates into Orlando Sanford (SFB), a secondary airport for the Orlando area, we suggest shopping around and looking at flights into the primary airport – Orlando International Airport (MCO).

Delta, United, and US Airways, also operate from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AVP) to their respective hubs and will sometimes match prices.  At the end of the day, it never hurts to shop around.
