Aeroflot Accepts Seventh Sukhoi Superjet 100

Aeroflot Russian Airlines puts 7th SSJ-100 in operation

Aeroflot Russian Airlines puts their seventh SSJ-100 into operation.  The first revenue operation of the aircraft, named after famous Aeroflot Pilot, Georgy Benkunsky, will take to the skies soon.

The SSJ-100 is a full size regional jet desinged to carry 87 passengers in a two-class layout.  If the economics of the SSJ-100 are be realized, the jet could be seen as competition to Brazil’s Embraer E-Jets series as well as Canadian based Bombardier Regional Jets.

The seventh Sukhoi Superjet 100 (MSN 95016 – registered number RA-89008) was delivered to Aeroflot under contract under a lease agreement with VEB Leasing.

In total, Aeroflot has ordered 30 of the SSJ100 aircraft.

The SSJ100 aircraft were designed for regional markets which require a high flight frequency with quick turn-around capability.

Vladimir Prisyazhnyuk, President of Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, said, “We are very pleased that our SSJ100 aircraft is becoming an important part of the Aeroflot’s fleet. We will do our best to make sure that the SSJ100 continues to meet the expectations of the airline.”

Aeroflot currently operates seven SSJ100 aircraft which are based in Moscow to 14 Russian cities as well as to Minsk, Donetsk, Budapest, Bucharest, Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm.  Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC) stated Aeroflot operations confirm that the aircraft has well matched their requirements in terms of high frequencies and quick turns.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100, also known as the SSJ100, is a regional jet designed, developed and built by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC), in partnership with Alenia Aermacchi.  The aircraft was built with a maximum operating speed of Mach .81 and a ceiling of 40,000 feet.  In February 2012, the SSJ100 obtained the EASA Type Certificate.  By April 8, 2012, seven SSJ100s have been in service with Armavia and Aeroflot and have accumulated over 6,100 flight hours in more than 3,150 revenue flight cycles.

The aircraft is operated with SaM-146 engines by PowerJet, a joint venture between Snecma of France and NPO Saturn of Russia.

The only North American carrier to have the SSJ100 on record for delivery is Mexico’s Interjet.
