JAL 787 to Fly Boston – Helsinki – San Diego

Japan Airlines (JAL) to Start 787 Service to Boston

Japan Airlines (JAL) just took delivery of their first two GEnx-1B engined Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners.  The airline will start flights between Boston (BOS) and Tokyo-Narita (NRT) as of April 22nd.

To celebrate the Boston route, JAL contracted with Duskin Co., Ltd, to create AIR MISDO – a JAL Original version of doughnuts from the popular Mister Donut franchise.

The Mister Donut brand originated from Boston where it began in 1955.  Today, Mister Donut is the largest doughnut franchise chain in Japan with more than 1,300 outlets.  In commemoration of their Boston origins and Japan popularity, JAL will exclusively serve the AIR MISDO set made-up of a chocolate-coated cinnamon ring and a maple-flavored ring of classic Mister Donut doughnuts, alongside a bowl of Boston’s clam chowder.

JAL is also reviving a Mister Donut delight, the popular [Boston 1955] – which is made up of ice cream sandwiched between chocolate chip cookies.  [Boston 1955] sold until 2003 is no longer available in stores.

San Diego is home to 1.4 million residents and is a thriving city with an economy made largely of international trade, tourism and the defense sector.  Additionally, San Diego has many research centers, higher educational institutions, and enjoys a healthy traffic of travelers each year, with substantial demand to/from Asia

Also of importance is the nearby Mexican border.  Many Japanese companies operate factories south of the border in Mexico, be it Tijuana or Mexicali.  Goods are produced at lower costs and are then shipped to the US, Asia, Australia, or Europe.
