Turkish Airlines – High Speed WiFi and Live TV

First to Offer Live TV – Now WiFi over the Atlantic

Turkish Airlines was the first to offer live, satellite TV across the Atlantic on September 23, 2011, with a new Boeing 777-300ER.

Now, Turkish Airways, together with Panasonic Avionics Corporation, has added high-speed Wi-Fi broadband Internet access to its existing live, inflight television service on Trans-Atlantic flights using its IFE platform, PLANET.

These services – PLANET GCS – are being introduced to the Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER’s and Airbus A330-300’s just as the summer travel season comes to a start.

Once an aircraft is upgraded, passengers will have access to high-speed, unlimited Internet with laptops, tablets, smartphones or any other device that is WiFi enabled . Business travelers can also access their company’s Virtual Private Network (VPN). The high-speed Internet service will initially be provided free of charge as an introductory offer.

Together with the new high-speed Internet service and personal seatback TV screens, passengers will have access to live TV with the latest news and television programs, as well as online services related to Turkish Airlines’ loyalty program Miles & Smiles and access to customer relations connections.

As a result of high demand for seats between Istanbul and New York, a 3rd daily nonstop is being added to the summer flight schedule starting May 28, 2012.  The new flights will be operated by Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A330-300 aircraft.

With the start of the summer schedule on May 28, nonstop flights are also being added to Bremen and Leipzig in Germany.  This is in addition to Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover, Köln, Munich, Nurnberg and Stuttgart.
