South African Airways Grows Network
SAA has introduced Cotonu (COO) in Benin as its latest addition to their growing route network. The route will launch on May 17, 2012, as an extension to the newly added flight between Johannesburg (JNB) to Pointe Noire, Congo (PNR).
The flight will route Johannesburg (JNB) to Pointe Noire (PNR) and then onward to Cotonou (COO) twice a week using an Airbus A319 aircraft.
The new flights are already available for sale in SAA’s reservations system or via your travel agent.
Theunis Potgieter, SAA General Manager Commercial, said, “Adding even more new routes to our African route network demonstrates our commitment to growth on the continent. Our aim remains to continue exploring possibilities for our customers who travel between countries on the continent for business or tourism.”
Cotonou will be SAA’s fifth new destination within African continent introduced since last October. Other new additions include Ndola, Zambia (NLA), Kigali, Rwanda (KGL), Bujumbura, Burundi (BJM) and Pointe Noire, Congo (PNR).
SAA also has fifth freedom rights between Point Noire (PNR) and Cotonou (COO), allowing the SAA to sell tickets and carry passengers between the two cities.
The departure and arrival of the flights in Johannesburg have been timed to allow easy connections within SAA’s route network, including long-haul’s to North America and Europe.
Cotonou is the economic capital of Benin and the country’s largest city. In addition to being Benin’s largest city, it houses several of its government and diplomatic services including the Beninese seat of government. International relations have been strengthened between South Africa and Benin with the state visit by President Yayi of Benin by invitation of President Zuma in November 2011.
