Austrian Reworks Route Network

Based in Vienna, Austrian Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, is well positioned to add additional flights to Eastern Europe, especially in markets Malev once served which have unmet demand.  Additionally, the carriers’ 2012 Work Program, which outlines Austrian’s reworked route network, calls for strengthening links to Eastern Europe as well as the Middle East, according to Austrian’s Executive Board member Andreas Bierwirth.

With the upcoming summer schedule, the carrier will increase flights from its Vienna Hub (VIE) to both Bucharest (OTP) and Sofia (SOF) to five times per day.  One additional flight will be added to London Heathrow (LHR) during the summer, bringing the Heathrow route to four times daily.

In the absence of Spanair, Austrian Airlines will add an additional flight to Barcelona (BCN), beginning March 25, 2012.  The new flight will result in three frequencies daily.

Starting March 1, 2012, an extra flight will be added to Klagenfurt (KLU).  This will result in five flights daily to the German speaking state of Carinthia.  The additional flight to Linz introduced in the winter schedule will continue to operate year-round.

Connections to and from Graz (GRZ), Salzburg (SZG), and Innsbruck (INN), which are already extremely well-developed, will continue to operate, as will the three flights per day the company operates to and from Altenrhein (ACH).

The Mumbai route will end and the Boeing 767 used on the route will be re-deployed on the route between Vienna (VIE) to Tel Aviv (TLV).  The New Dehli (DEL) flight will operate as normal.  Flights between Vienna (VIE) and Tehran (IKA) will also be upgraded to Boeing 767.

Finally, flights to Tripoli (TIP) will resume now that political unrest in Libya has come to an end.  Flights will operate five times weekly.
