Iberia Pilots Union – SEPLA – upset with Iberia Express

The pilots at Iberia are going on strike once again; this month they will be striking on February 13, 17, 20, 24, and the 29th.  The strike is a result of Iberia forming a new division known as Iberia Express, in order to reduce cost, and its pilot union upset it’ll take work away from them.

Customers who purchased their tickets on www.iberia.com should receive messages if their flights are cancelled, including proposed alternatives when available. Iberia has promised to facilitate ticket changes and refunds to the affected passengers. Consumers may also call a special (+34) 902 100 988 telephone number to deal with strike-related queries and procedures.

If you are scheduled to travel with Iberia during the strike period, we advise you visit www.iberia.com where you can view the status of flights (under Arrivals and Departures) and of reservations (Booking management). The company will keep customers informed at all times via iberia.com and its Call Centers around the world.

Iberia will also use social media – visit their Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as all Iberia airport ticketing & check-in desks, and travel agents.

If you get caught in the strike, it is possible travel insurance can also protect you depending on the type of policy you have and length of any delay. If you purchased your ticket from a oneworld partner such as American Airlines or British Airways and your flight is canceled prior to your start of travel, they should be able to assist you. If you purchased from a travel agency and have not started travel, you could also look to the travel agency for assistance.
