Allegiant to Open SF Bay – Oakland Base

Allegiant Connects Northwest with San Francisco Area

Allegiant Airlines will be opening an operations base at Oakland International Airport (OAK) on April 26, 2012.  The carrier plans to station two MD-80 series jets with seating for 166 at Oakland.  According to Allegiant, the new base will need to be staffed with flight attendants, pilots, mechanics, and airport service employees; the airline has estimated the base will employ about 60 people.

As a base for Allegiant, the airline will add service to seven markets:

  • Billings, Montana (BIL)
  • Bozeman, Montana (BZN)
  • Kalispell, Montana (FCA)
  • Idaho Falls, Idaho (IDA)
  • Medford, Oregon (MFR)
  • Missoula, Montana (MSO)
  • Redmond, Oregon (RDM)

Flights to Billings (BIL), Medford (MFR), and Redmond (RDM) will begin on April 26, 2012.  Flights to the remaining stations, Bozeman (BZN), Kalispell (FCA), Idaho Falls (IDA), and Missoula (MSO) will start April 27, 2012.

Introductory fares as low as $29.99 one-way will be available on a limited basis.

Oakland International Airport and BART connections

Individuals flying into Oakland International Airport have a variety of transportation options including automobile rental and the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART).  To access BART you must pickup the AirBART shuttle which operates approximately every 10 minutes during the day.  The AirBART shuttle picks up across the roadway from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and the ride is about 15 minutes to the Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART Station.

The cost of the AirBART shuttle for adults is $3 and is payable in cash, exact change only; or a $3 ticket may be purchased from a BART ticket machine.  Warning: Bus fare boxes will not return BART tickets with more than $3 value.  BART tickets otherwise are like debit cards – swipe the ticket upon entry to a BART station and swipe it again at your destination; the cost of your trip will be deducted from the card.

If you’re going to San Francisco, board a San Francisco/Daly City bound train.  To return to the Oakland International Airport via BART, Take a Fremont or Dublin/Pleasanton train to the Coliseum/Oakland Airport station (the 4th stop after traveling through the tunnel under the bay) then board the AirBART shuttle to the Oakland Airport.
