Fourth European Destination from Miami Hub
American Airlines is adding a nonstop flight from it’s Miami Hub to Barcelona, Spain. This officially becomes American’s fourth European destination from their hub in Miami, which concentrates on connecting the United States to the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. The new Barcelona flight will start April 3, 2012, with five flights per week, until June 14, 2012, when it becomes a daily flight.
The new route will connect American’s hub at Miami International Airport (MIA) with Barcelona’s El Prat International Airport (BCN). Barcelona has a booming business community and is one of the top European tourist destination, boasting the Sagrada Familia, La Rambla (don’t forget the market off the Rambla), the Picasso Museum, and the food, especially the better Tapas bars, are not to be missed!
The new flight will be operated by the Boeing 767-300 aircraft and will compliment American’s flight from New York’s JFK to Barcelona. The 767-300 seats 225, including 30 fully-motorized, lie-flat seats business class.
If you can’t get enough Spain, Iberia, one of American’s oneworld partners, will be adding a second flight from Miami (MIA) to their hub at Madrid’s Barajas Airport (MAD). The second Iberia flight will start March 25th and will make the trek across the pond four times per week. Iberia’s flights are in addition to American’s daily nonstop flight between Miami and Madrid.
“The addition of Barcelona further underscores the importance of our Miami hub and our commitment to its growth,” said Peter Dolara, American’s Senior Vice President based in Miami. “Barcelona and Miami are both important tourism and business destinations as well cruise ports. This flight will further expand South Florida’s historical ties to Spain and will complement our service to Madrid as well as Iberia’s increased service to Spain’s capital city.”
