High Demand from RJ’s Amman Hub to Nairobi

Demand for commercial air transportation to Africa is booming – Royal Jordanian’s latest destination, Nairobi, Kenya (NBO).  Individuals around the globe, including North America, now have the ability to make easy connections to Nairobi via Royal Jordanian’s Amman (AMM) hub at Queen Alia International Airport.

Royal Jordanian operates North American gateway’s at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport (ORD), New York’s John F Kennedy Airport (JFK), Detroit Metro (DTW), and Montreal (YUL).  The carrier uses Airbus A340 aircraft for its Chicago and New York to Amman flights and the Airbus A330 for its Detroit and Montreal services.  Upon arrival in Amman, passengers can make connections to 59 global destinations including Nairobi.

The new flight will serve as a vital link between Jordan and Kenya, creating new trade, and is expected to increase tourism in both Kenya and Jordan.  Royal Jordanian will operate four weekly flights between Amman and Nairobi with its modern A319 aircraft.  The cabin is outfit with a state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system with numerous audio choices and personal video screens at each seat in economy and crown classes.

The flights from will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing from Amman at 8:30 pm and reaching Nairobi at 2:55 am the next day.  The return flight from Nairobi is on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Mondays at 3:50am, reaching Amman at 8am.

Royal Jordanian plans to launch two new African routes in the first quarter of 2012, Algiers and Lagos.  The carrier is evaluating the feasibility of routes to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Accra, Ghana.

US carrier Delta Air Lines attempted to enter the Nairobi market in 2009 – they even touted ad’s on their seatback personal televisions about the new service, but the US Transportation Administration (TSA), part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), deemed the route too dangerous and denied Delta the authority to operate their planned Nairobi flights.   Flights are available via a time-consuming connection via Amterdam operated by KLM.

With the launch of this service, individuals now have more options for travel to Nairobi.  American Airlines coordinates their flight schedules, including RJ codeshared flights, to feed the Royal Jordanian flights out their hubs at Chicago O’Hare and New York JFK.
