American Airlines Year-End Frequent Flyer Promotion

If you’re a Frequent Flyer on American Airlines with their AAdvantage Program and have travel on American between now and January 31, 2012, drop what you’re doing now.  In an effort to retain customers in this highly competitive environment, you can obtain Double Elite Qualifying Miles (EQM) on all American Airlines, American Eagle, and American Connection flights between now and the end January 2012.

First, you must register for the promo:

AAdvantage members must register for the promo prior to travel at www.aa.com/offers and use the promotion code DEQAA.  If you’re not a member of the AAdvantage program, you can easily enroll by visiting www.aa.com/enroll.

Once enrolled, all American Airline flights from enrollment to January 31, 2012, will provide you with Double Elite Qualifying Miles and it’ll put you on the fast path to AAdvantage Elite Status.  This is a great promotion to provide customers with a boost to obtain elite status, re-qualify for current elite status, or to jump ahead at the start of the new year.

  • 25,000 Elite Qualifying Miles earns AAdvantage Gold
  • 50,000 Elite Qualifying Miles earns AAdvantage Platinum
  • 100,000 Elite Qualifying Miles earns AAdvantage Executive Platinum

Elite qualifying miles must be accumulated during a calendar year and reset at the 1st of the year.  For full details on what the different Elite levels provide, visit: www.aa.com/elitestatus.

Qualifying for Elite status on an airline is the best way to get special perks and benefits.  Benefits include domestic First Class upgrades, system wide upgrades good for International Flights, access to a special reservations number, preferred seating, mileage bonuses, priority check-in, access to priority security lines, early boarding, free checked luggage, and waived fees in certain circumstances.

“I thought to myself, after the latest technological gizmo and peace on earth, what would our AAdvantage members want the most during this holiday season,” said Maya Leibman, American’s outgoing President of AAdvantage Loyalty Program and incoming Chief Information Officer.

“While I may be new to the role of president, I am not new to being an AAdvantage member,” said Suzanne Rubin, American’s incoming president of AAdvantage Loyalty Program. “As a member for 25 years and having had the pleasure of working directly with Maya for the past six months, I have learned what our members want from the AAdvantage program, hence today’s double elite qualifying promotion.  As Maya passes the baton to me, I look forward to demonstrating my shared passion for the program and can assure customers that we will continue to seek member feedback in order to enhance the program and offer valued promotions.”

It’ll be interesting to see if other carriers follow with similar promotions to stay competitive.  With American Airlines being in a Chapter 11 re-organization, this is a great promo to retain their most valuable customers, the high mileage frequent flyers.
